TV Tip-Over Prevention

  • Assess the stability of the TVs in your home.

  • Mount flat-panel TVs to the wall to prevent them from toppling off stands. Follow the manufacturer's instructions to ensure that you have a secure fit.

  • If you have a heavier, box-style cathode ray tube (CRT) TV, place it on a low, stable piece of furniture that is appropriate for the TV’s size and weight.

  • If you no longer use your CRT TV, consider recycling it.

  • Use brackets, braces or wall straps to secure unstable or top-heavy furniture to the wall.

Button Battery Safety

  • Keep coin lithium battery-controlled devices out of sight and reach of children. These may include remote controls, singing greeting cards, digital scales, watches, hearing aids, thermometers, children’s toys, calculators, key fobs, tea light candles, flashing holiday jewelry or decorations.

  • Keep loose batteries locked away. Place a piece of duct tape over the controller to prevent small children from accessing the battery.

  • If your child has ingested a battery, go to the nearest hospital immediately. Don’t induce vomiting or have your child eat or drink anything until assessed by a medical professional.

  • In a battery related emergency call the National Battery Ingestion Hotline (202-625-3333). Call anytime for additional treatment information.
